The Iron never lies to you. You can walk outside and listen to all kinds of talk, get told that you’re a god or a total bastard. The Iron will always kick you the real deal. The Iron is the great reference point, the all-knowing perspective giver. Always there like a beacon in the pitch black. I have found the Iron to be my greatest friend. It never freaks out on me, never runs. Friends may come and go. But two hundred pounds is always two hundred pounds.

Youtuber of the week

I plan on making this a regular segment on my blog. About once a week I choose a vloger or group of videos to be my Youtubers of the week.

This week the Award goes to SxePhil. His sarcastic tone and tendency towards sardonic/dry wit when it comes to reporting the news puts him at the top of my list. Definitely worth a check.

The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger is Better than Your Dad.

Over the past 2 years I have been deeply engrossed in the land of Mid-World and the quest to find the Dark Tower, following along as Roland and his Ka-tet journey through lands both beyond our scope and ones incredibly familiar; all the while leaving behind a trail of death and shell casings.

Stephen King's self proclaimed masterpiece and largest undertaking has been 30 years in the making and was well worth the wait. The over arching story has a very familiar feel to any reader, one man on a quest to save the world, but the settings and characters can be anything but ordinary. Our stories hero goes by the name Roland; simple and to the point, just like the man himself.

Roland lives in a version of our world that has "moved on," all manner of machinery is "dying", paper is more valuable than gold and order is maintained by a group known as Gunslingers; men who have uncanny reflexes and can use any weapon at their disposal (although guns have become a rarity in this world). Roland's quest all begins with the pursuit of "The Man in Black", but eventually expands to a greater field of vision and deeper meaning.

King incorporates ideas and stances from all points of the map, from religion to politics to self-deception and motivation; using Roland and the rest of the cast as launching points for his ideals.

Now I don't want to ruin the book for anyone so I am going to leave it at that; but if you are a fan of Westerns, Sci-Fi, Action-Adventure, Epics or just enjoy reading I highly suggest this series.

On a side note there has recently been a lot of talk about turning this series into a film with the team behind Lost at the helm of the project. It is also rumored that Josh Holloway may star as Roland.
